1. What significance does International Women’s Day hold for you?

International Women’s Day holds immense significance for myself and Share the Dignity. It serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggles faced by women and reinforces our commitment to our mission of ensuring that everyone is afforded the dignity in life that so many of us take for granted. It is a day to celebrate the achievements of women and our accomplishments as a charity, but it is also important to reflect and acknowledge how far we have to go to ensure menstrual equity in Australia.

It is important to amplify our voices and shed light on period poverty and the other barriers facing women and those who menstruate here in Australia.

2. What steps should we take to ensure gender equality is a reality in Australia?

A lot still needs to be done to make gender equality a reality here in Australia. Looking at menstrual equity specifically, I would love to see a united front in tackling period poverty across the country. I would love to see an Australia where every state and territory provides free period products to those in need, free period products in hospitals, and period education for all genders. I’d also love to see all workplaces help us achieve menstrual equity through the provision of free period products.

3. Can you explain why promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality is essential to you?

Promoting women's empowerment and gender equality is essential because it aligns with Share the Dignity’s core values. Menstrual hygiene is a fundamental aspect of women's health, and addressing period poverty requires dismantling gender inequalities. By advocating for change, we contribute to a world where all individuals have dignified access to period products, equal opportunities and so much more.

4. How can women stand in solidarity with each other?

We need to lift each other up and stand together to create change. We need to support each other, amplify voices from diverse backgrounds, join forces to tackle issues such as period poverty and educate each other to create lasting change. By standing together, women can create a powerful force for change, breaking down barriers and fostering a more equitable society.
