IWD 2024 Margaret Sheppard
Margaret Sheppard, co-founder of Peter Sheppard Footwear, shares her heartfelt thoughts on the significance of International Women's Day and the woman who has had the greatest influence on her life.
This International Women's Day we hosted an event in each of our stores to help raise money for Share The Dignity.
Looking back at International Women’s Day 2024, we feel grateful for the valuable lessons we learned and the day's significance. Our team comprises over 90% women and has been selling to women for over 50 years. We love celebrating women's brilliance and never miss an opportunity to do so.
At Peter Sheppard, we believe in supporting grassroots charities that significantly impact our community. For this IWD, we chose to donate a percentage of our sales to Share the Dignity, an organisation that provides sanitary products to those who menstruate. Currently, one in five Australians are facing period poverty and are often forced to choose between buying food or expensive sanitary items. Many of these individuals are experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, or living in poverty, and often, they are left with no other option but to wash in public restrooms and use paper towels as makeshift pads. This is unacceptable.
We had the pleasure of hosting Rochelle Courtenay, the founder of Share the Dignity, at our Brisbane store on this special occasion to learn more about their important work. By highlighting this deserving charity, we aim to spread the word about their remarkable efforts throughout Australia. To learn more, please visit www.sharethedignity.org.au.
